About us.....

We are an artists' cooperative located in the charming, historic Village of Ballston Spa, NY.  We proudly celebrated our 10th Anniversary in 2014.  Our artists work in a variety of media including ceramics, fiber, paper, glass, photography, acrylic paint, oil paint, watercolors, wood, and metal.  Our shop is filled with fine art and unique gift ideas found only here in Ballston Spa. Our local artists take special orders, made to your liking, and several teach classes. Our Iron Spring Gallery features a new exhibit each month by guest artists and member artists with a First Friday Opening Reception.

Michele Merges Martens is a mixed media artist who has been with our cooperative for more than 10 years. She creates in layers, using her poetry to explore themes, including the seasons, healing energies, emotions, and the environment. In her art quilts she recycles found objects, buttons, and old clothes, and often uses with her own hand-painted or hand-dyed fabric and yarns. She experiments with painting on and rubber stamping paper and fabric, creating tag art, altered books, and collages. Michele also makes art dolls of recycled and found objects, each with their own personality.

Michele has exhibited nationally and internationally, and belonged to the professional group Art Quilt Network. She has exhibited in juried shows in Japan, Paris, Oregon, Costa Rica, and various travelling national shows in galleries and centers. Locally she has exhibited at Fulton Street Gallery, the Shelnutt Gallery, and the Iron Spring Gallery. She teaches classes on art quilting, collageandmixedmedia, andjournaling. Herartquiltbuildingbones: remembering the towers (collection of Kim Ritter) was published in America From The Heart, Quilters Remember September 11, 2001, and her piece grid # two was published in Quilting Arts magazine.
