Artist Statement:

Mary's paintings and photographs often show that she is happiest when exploring off the beaten path.

"I am open to the beauty in the world whether it is a flower in the swamp, a sunset over water, an abandoned building or a derelict boat. I look for it in unusual places.  I am very drawn to old and historic buildings. If I can catch one before it is renovated or torn down, I feel good about that. The buildings in downtown Ballston Spa, New York display the architectural elegance of an earlier age. It's important to preserve that in reality and in art."

Mary has exhibited her work in Ellenton, Fort Myers and Cape Coral, Florida; Bennington, Vermont, and North Adams, Mass. She studied watercolor painting with Anne K. Lindsay of Petersburg, NY, and with various Florida artists.  Most of her paintings are inspired by her original photographs. She learned photography while a writer and photographer for newspapers in Vermont and Massachusetts.  Mary also designs notecards from her paintings and photographs.  A native Vermonter, mary now lives in Florida and spends the summers in Malta, NY.
