I became fascinated with knitting as a high school freshman but never had the opportunity to learn and refine my technique until several years later.  It was well worth the wait as my mentor was an elderly nun who created the most exquisite garments.  I counted the days to my next lesson so that I might create warm and eye-catching items for my family from this patient woman.  My children were the envy of their friends with an assortment of sweaters, hats, mittens and scarves, not to mention the pile of afghans that we all snuggled under.   These days my grandchildren are none to shy about requesting warm winter socks, mittens or sweaters.

I must confess that I never truly appreciated fiber arts until I moved to Ballston Spa 12 years ago.  In that time I have met talented new friends and been introduced to spinning, dyeing, lace knitting, incorporating beads and rug punching.   One of my favorite means of relaxation is spinning luscious batches of silk, cashmere or fine wool in my garden or by the fire.

While it is most rewarding to create practical items, I have wandered into the realm of home décor where I have fashioned pillows, chair pads and lace curtains for myself and family.
