Artist Statement:
Art has been my passion since I was a child. Growing up I would make things out of whatever I could find. I dug up clay out of the yard to make pots and spoons, taught myself origami, took pictures of everything, made up plays and dances to perform for anyone who would watch, and knew that when I "grew up" I would be an artist if I could.

I attended the Colorado Institute of Art for photography thinking that I had no talent as an artist, so photography would allow me to express myself despite my inability to draw. Then I decided to take a painting class just for fun, and instantly fell in love with oil paint. Now I use acrylic as well as oil and find they both have their own unique qualities.

My early work is mostly abstracts, but recently I have been painting landscapes and more realistic subjects. I love to hike in the Adirondacks, and my landscape paintings are done from photos I've taken while hiking. There is nothing like standing at the top of a mountain and looking out on the beauty of these mountains. I hope to give the viewer a sense of that feeling, and a greater respect for the earth we need to protect for future generations. My furniture work is an extension of this. Most of the pieces were destined for the dump, but with some minor repairs and a make-over, I hope to make them into once again useful pieces of furniture that will add interest to the room they are put in.

My goal as an artist is to help people see the same old things in new ways, and create a love for our earth that will carry over into all parts of life. Life is art and the world is the canvas. What will we give our children's grandchildren to look at when we are gone?
