Artist Statement:
Given my keen interest in science, nature and art, photography
was a logical next step. After many years and a number of preparatory
learning experiences, I realized photography was what I enjoyed and
wanted to do as a career.
I spent many years of my life hiking, camping, and exploring the
outdoors. Nature has always held my fascination, whether it was studying
rocks in the back yard or capturing wonderful scenes while backpacking
in the White Mountains. My curiosity of the natural world led me to a
bachelors degree in Geology, internships and jobs teaching outdoor
education as well as courses in animal tracking and wilderness survival.
Each one of these experiences has helped shape my understanding of the
natural world and develop a deep curiosity and appreciation that is
evident in my photography.
Our natural world and peoples' interaction with the natural world are a
focal point for me. One of my goals is to showcase images of the natural
world that are easily accessible to people. Many of my photographs
embody a refreshingly different look at things we see everyday. Through
my photography, I hope people will continue to develop a deep
appreciation for the beauty of the natural world in which we live.
